MV YIMBY Endorses James Kuszmaul and Erik Poicon for Mountain View City Council

After extensive deliberations, our members have voted, and Mountain View YIMBY endorses James Kuszmaul and Erik Poicon for Mountain View City Council in the November 2026 election.

We pre-endorsed James a month ago, based on long tenure of supply-side housing advocacy resulting in the delivery of many public comments to the council on the topic.

Today we further endorse Erik Poicon.

In answers to our questions he wrote:

“I support completing the R3 zoning update to allow more missing-middle housing, including duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, stacked flats, and other housing types.”

“I would also work to make permitting more predictable, reduce unnecessary delays, and review requirements that increase cost without providing a clear public benefit.”

“We should continue adding housing near transit and along major corridors, where new homes can be supported by existing infrastructure.”

On SB 79, he said he would work to make sure Mountain View implements it in good faith while using local tools to prevent displacement.

Erik brings a record on protecting existing tenants and vulnerable residents, a key pillar of housing policy alongside production, as well as a lived experience as the only candidate running for council who has personally experienced homelessness.

During the pandemic he connected families to food, rental assistance, and essential services, and he has worked at the Community Services Agency helping families at risk of displacement. He worked with SEIU 521 to win union support for Measure G (2024), which sends a share of its proceeds to affordable housing. He serves on the city’s Human Relations Commission and in the Rapid Response Network.

We believe he will bring a new perspective to Mountain View’s City Council that will amplify voices that have long gone unheard in our city.
